Summer Building

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I’ve been busy for most of the summer strengthening my portfolio with two campaigns: Lava Soap and Southwest Airlines. You can view the artwork for each client by visiting my portfolio page or clicking the links below:

Internet Explorer

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

As some of you know, Internet Explorer 8 recently launched its stable version a little over two months ago (March 19, 2009). I find it particularly amusing and slightly sadistic that the Internet Explorer 8 homepage sports a link to IE6. Sadly, it is still available for download.

Identity Refresh

Friday, April 24th, 2009

My old identity was extremely arbitrary and mildly embarrassing. The spaces in the letterforms served no purpose, and the typography, consequently, suffered greatly.

Hard Refresh
Conception
The inverted refresh icon fashioned to represent a capital G is immediately obvious, and the simplicity is intentional. I didn’t want anything overly complicated or “neat-o.” It needed to illustrate my passion [...]

Realign 2009

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Since its launch in June 2008, the first functioning version of geoffthibeau.com has overgrown its original design. There were many features I wanted to add that were near impossible to implement seamlessly. The sidebar was quickly becoming a distraction, and dear old Bob had an embarrassingly misspelled balloon.
I had to rethink what I felt was [...]

Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

SHAFR (SHAY-fer) for short. In November, I was hired by the Society to redesign their website and transform their web presence from a humble group of online historians into a thriving web-community of historians, educators, students, and the population at large.
With over 100 unique visitors per day since its beta launch on December 23, 2008, [...]

Google’s New Favicon

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

What’s up with Google’s new favicon? It’s horrible. It’s somewhere between Simon Says™, Play-Doh™, and the London 2012 Olympic logo.

36Point Student Design Challenge

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Being a fan of 36point.com, I was excited to find their student design competition a few months ago. I quickly decided which class (that I was enrolled in already) would be easiest to get away with their ridiculous rules. Ultimately, digital printmaking, being more of a studio elective than a design elective, was an obvious [...]

Book Assembly

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

During finals in mid-November, I was required to make ten books and two cd cases. After completing a few, I decided to document the process.
Please read the entire process before purchasing materials.
Required materials: plain paper, masking tape, Super77, ruler, box-cutter or X-acto knife, surface to cut on (re-healing mat recommended), tape-glue dispenser, PVA glue or [...]

Think Tank ‘08

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Having joined AIGA two weeks ago, I wanted to see what sort of events were nearby and affordable. And thanks to Nate Voss and Donovan Beery’s podcast, I was introduced to Think Tank, which is presented and hosted by the Nashville AIGA chapter. So when I found out that Think Tank ’08 was in [...]

Underground Graphics

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

After a summer of absorbing web techniques, from both my internship at DTP and Google research, I’ve successfully built two websites using Wordpress as a backbone. And I feel pretty dang awesome about it, considering that is most likely better than 98% of my peers at Tech. One of those websites is this one; and [...]
