Although I was disappointed last night, I was not surprised with the results. And I’m okay with what happened, because at the very least, Mr. Obama made every citizen feel important yesterday. It doesn’t matter if you voted for Obama or McCain or any other candidate, because we all participated and we all had a voice.
But let us not forget that the country isn’t saved because of yesterday’s election. The country is still broken, and will remain broken long into Obama’s administration. We are at war, and our economy is testing its fragility. If Obama can manage a favorable solution to these issues, then I have no reason to bicker, moan, or protest. And neither should my fellow conservatives.
Senator McCain’s concession was, in my opinion, much more inspiring than Senator Obama’s celebratory oration.
I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.
Senator John McCain
I am proud to have been a participant in this historic election.
